Opportunity-who,what,why
Over my time in this course, I've had the chance to expose myself to possible opportunities and have learned how to properly evaluate these opportunities and the level of accuracy. For this assignment I have chosen an opportunity that I believe has strong potential and that I would like to pursue. I selected the opportunity I have discussed about in past blogs which is to solve students need for additional food choices in Library West. The ones WHO are facing this issue is the students primarily. Students are not being offered (WHAT) an adequate amount of food selection in the library, which is leading to several negative consequences. I believe this issue is being caused (WHY) because the school may be worried about taking up study room in the library from students or they may not want to make the financial sacrifice for the construction of this new food vendor area. Many other students on campus have this need, but it does not really extend to other parties.
Testing the who?
This need is limited to Library West and its visitors. Other than students, the only other parties at the library that could benefit from this opportunity would be Library West employees. Students who attend this library would be positively impacted by this plan!
Testing the what?
There are solutions to the issue, but they are not ideal which is why I believe my idea has such a great amount of potential. Some students go to serious extent to solve this issue so I believe my idea would be a major connivence boost for students and end in success. This issue does affect the majority of students, but some who only visit the library for a small amount of time may not be seriously affected by the lack of food choices offered.
Testing the why?
The prototypical customers have brought up lots of whys and I didn't always have the answers. Some have questioned why another food source has not been implemented already into the building. Others have also brought up questions regarding to what kind of food source would be implemented and what the food options would be. Many are unsure of if our school would allow this plan to be implemented and whether there are any polices our contracts existing that are interfering. I believe the why I have identified is the primary why for this opportunity and my target audience agrees that this is the reasoning behind the idea.
Interview Summary
After interviewing students, professors, and employees on campus I gained some new perspectives on my idea and the who, what, why division of it. Some of the students I talked to were not Library West visitors, so they found it hard to relate to the issue. Professors also were not passionate about the issue because they do not experience the struggles involved with the issue. It was my first time talking to employees and one of the Library West employees voiced her opinion on my idea and agreed that it would be successful and a positive addition to the library and our campus. My who perspective was widened after my interviews and my what and why were further validated.

6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
Economic Trend 1
The first opportunity I found was on weforum.org and it is relating to an economic trend. Part of the article shared about how there is a massive increase in the working population and this is causing an impact on our national economy. I realized the opportunity after reading through the article and identifying the issue and a solution for it. I believe where there is a need, there is an opportunity. The prototypical customers for the opportunity would be American citizens. Individual's from other regions who are highly educated and skilled are taking jobs from American's and are threatening our nations economy. I believe this opportunity would be hard to exploit because it is a high scaled issue. Some may not see an opportunity in this topic because they may be intimidated or discouraged by the size of this issue. Through a course I took last semester, ALS2410, I learned just how great of an impact a single person can make on a massive problem and this gives me the courage to combat large obstacles.
https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/09/global-competitiveness-report-2017-trends/
Economic Trend 2
The second opportunity I found was regarding the economic trend relating to baby boomer's retirement age. With baby boomers retiring at a later age, the younger generation have less job opportunities. I found this opportunity in an article sharing about the top 5 US economic trends to watch out for. I believe there is an opportunity here to aid the baby boomers. They are being affected by the recession and are worried that they will face financial issues when retiring. The customers or prototypical audience would be the older baby boomer generation. They are the ones facing late retirement and fear. I feel that this may be a difficult opportunity to grasp and find the right solution for, but it is possible. I think that many would bypass this opportunity since it only targets one possible group of customers and this could worry entrepreneurs. I came to the conclusion that there is an opportunity in this topic since it is one of the top economic trend, which leads me to believe there is an opportunity to serve others and make a change in the industry. I have a strong belief that there is a solution to this issue and an opportunity to reap great benefits.

Regulatory Change 1
The first opportunity I found relating to regulatory change is the topic of altering the gambling laws in our nation. The Anti-Gambling amendment is possibly facing changes in the near future and it may be permitted not only across Florida, but in other states as well. I found out about this information from a fellow classmate in this class. They shared about this topic and it caught my eye. I found an article about this topic on the SunSentinel.com. I believe an opportunity that exists would be for hotels and restaurants near the new casinos. The prototypical customer would be adults from the ages 18 and up. I feel this opportunity offers a simple way to address this change and create revenue from it. Some may read about this topic, but fail to recognize the indirect opportunities it offers because they are too focused on the direct change and affects it causes. I formed my belief because I see the tourism and money that gambling attracts to an area.

Regulatory Change 2
The second regulatory change I identified was change in the legal age for individuals to buy tobacco products. In order to improve the health of our youth and to improve their future, this law is being trialled. I found this article about the opportunity on Monticello Times. I believe there is an opportunity here because this will create needs for those who are under 21 and are currently purchasing tobacco products. I believe the customer for a potential product would be youth between the age 17-21. I believe this change offers room for potential opportunities because a need will be created, but it will be hard to compete with the already established products in this industry. I believe that some may not see opportunity in this area because there are already some alternative product created. I believe there is still room for potential opportunity and innovation in this area since tobacco products have been found to be so popular in the age range 18-21.

4A-Forming An Opportunity Belief
I believe there is an opportunity to open a successful food vendor in Library West at UF. I have faced the issue many times where I am a the library and I have to leave because I need a meal to keep going. I have talked to man y other students who feel the same way about this problem. While there is a Starbucks, they only offer pastries and a few selection of actual food. Students need energy in order to work properly and I think that opening either a cafe or small restaurant would improve student's experience at the library and their education. This need has existed since I began studying at UF and I am assuming it went on before I was here. People are meeting their needs by buying food out of the vending machine or paying for overpriced breakfast sandwiches at the Starbucks. I am certain that this is a great opportunity because I have witnessed how it affects students and have experienced this struggle along with many of my fellow classmates and friends. The prototypical customer would be the students since they are the ones who study at the library. Many will spend the entire day there and it would be much more convenient to go down stairs and get a hot sub rather than having to pack up your things to go get food.
Student 1:
The first student I interviewed shared how she believes the lack of food options at library west is a problem and that adding a cafe or a subway that offers affordable meals where students can also use their swipes would be very beneficial. Student one shared that she normally does not come to the library on an empty stomach, but that over time she begins to get hungry and the need becomes apparent. She said she realized the issue and has been having this need since she started studying at library west, which was about two years ago. She said currently she results in ordering food to the library through uber eats which call for delivery costs or buying food she doesn't really want at Starbucks. She shared how glad should would be about the solution to the issue and believes it would be very successful.
Student 2:
The second student I interviewed explained his views about the idea and agreed that I would be a great addition to the library. He said he becomes aware of the situation when he's studying and has to purchase chips out of a machine or one of the expensive options form Starbucks. He shared how he studies mostly at newell where they have a cafe so he does not face the issue too often. He is a freshmen at UF so he has not experienced the issue for very long. He explained how most of the time when he feels hunger he just leaves to his dorm where he can get more of a real meal. He said that adding another food choice at library west would have him coming much more often and spending more time there.
Student 3:
The last student I interviewed shared about her positive and negative thoughts about the opportunity. She explained how she as dealt with the struggle of getting a meal while at the library. She brought up how it would be taking study room rom the library from students. She said she became aware of the need last semester when she only had swipes on her meal plan and was not able to get food from the Starbucks. She said she has been struggling with this issue for two semesters now and is begging to get annoyed with the situation. Normally she will pack her things and walk somewhere to get food or will order jimmy johns. She said both of these options interfere with her studying and she would like an additional food option and library west. She thinks it is a great idea to add another meal option and that it would attract more students to the library.
Reflection:
After interviewing students who attend library west, I got the opportunity to see the viewpoint of others on the situation and their thoughts about my solution. I was surprised that their views lined up so much with mine and it reassured me that my idea is a great opportunity. Each student had similar struggles and all agreed that adding another food option at library west would be beneficial.
Summary:
I still believe after my interviews that it is a valid opportunity that I have identified and my beliefs on the issue have not been altered. I now feel that my views on the opportunity have been strengthened and that it is an accurate opportunity. Based off the customer feedback, I believe that entrepreneurs would take this opportunity into serious consideration and would use the feedback to efficiently take this opportunity and succeed. It is important to take customer feedback and adapt the opportunuty in order to satisfy the needs of the prototypical customer.

Tobacco at 21 would prevent lifetimes of addiction, death
This article focuses on sharing a history on smoking and the affects it has on users. Through the article, it is explained how important it is to higher the smoking age and how it has already begun to be implemented. It has been shown that 95% of addiction to smoking begins before the age of 21. Smoking is a major threat to individuals health and has shown to cause heart disease, stroke and lung issues. The problem lies within the age group of 18-21. The younger an individual smokes, the greater chance they have to become addict to the harmful product. I think it is imperative to higher the age required for people to purchase tobacco products and to find alternative methods to the product.

3A- Your Entrepreneurship Story
The first time I was exposed to entrepreneurship was through my Father. Since I was young, he shared with me about the companies he tried creating and the fails and successes he experienced in the business world. While some of his companies failed, he continued to preserver and strive to create something great and successful. He currently has crated three companies that have succeed: LogistixMD, PRM, and CODISOTI. I have seen the struggles has has experienced through the process of putting his ideas into action and he has shared with me about how he conquered any obstacles and errors he faced. I enrolled into ENT3003 because I needed to take a business elective and the course description caught my eye since a friend of mine took it. She shared with me in the past how much she learned in the class so I decided to enroll into it. I really hope to gain a better understanding of the true meaning of entrepreneurship and how to go about putting my ideas into action efficiently and effectively.
2A-Bug List
1. I was working on some homework at library west when I got hungry and then became annoyed that the only choice for food was Starbucks or vending machines.
-I believe this is issue occurs because of a possible lack of space in the building. Study room would need to be sacrificed in order to have more food choices. The library is normally pretty full so I understand why seating and study space is prioritized.
2. It always bugs me when someone needs to borrow my charger while I'm using it and they ask me what percent my phone is on.
-I believe this issue occurs since most want their phones charged at all times. I think the owner of an item has control over the item and many use the tactic in order to prove why they have the right to the charger. I respect other's items and while it would be nice to use their item, I think the owner should never be put in a place where they are being guilted or obligated to do someone a favor.
3. I can't stand when I lend something of mine to someone and they return it in a worse condition than what they found it in.
- Most do this because they are lazy or don't have respect for someone's items. I always make sure to return things in the same condition or better than how I found it.
4. I get very annoyed when I make plans with someone and set a time, but they arrive unacceptably late. I am understanding when there is a valid reason or there is a short delay.
- I believe this occurs commonly to many because they have issues with time management or a lack of consideration for the person they are meeting with.
5. One of the most frustrating things is when I forget my key in my apartment after leaving.
-I frequently forget my key in a spot such as a drawer or in a purse. I could probably avoid this issue by getting a key rack, but I went the extra mile and decided to install a keypad lock to avoid getting locked out.
6. An issue I encounter commonly that bugs me is when I attempt logging into an account, but I do not know the username/password combination.
- This happens to me because I have so many accounts on various websites, but I fail to write down the information and website name anywhere.
7. I get annoyed when people act as is they are an expert on a subject that they are in actuality very unfamiliar with.
-I believe many people do this because it makes them feel superior to others and knowledgeable.
8. It always bugs me when someone says they don't have any preference or objection on where they want to eat, but they then can't agree on eating at any restaurant you suggest.
-I think this happens because people may not realize that they do have a preference or are in the mood for a certain kind of food.
9. An issue that bothers me is when you go to a restaurant or store and receive terrible customer service.
-I strongly think that weak customer service is due to a management issue. Employee's may not understand the importance of customer service if their managers are not stressing it.
10. In my town, especially on Sundays, bikers love to ride their bikes on the street in the same lanes as cars. I believe it is a safer route to ride bicycles on the biking lane or on the sidewalk.
-Many bikers have a strong opinion on their rights to bike on the road and the equality between cars and bikes. I feel that they are trying to prove a point by riding on the street in non-biking lanes.
11. I hate when people talk throughout a movie. It's okay for a few comments, but when I can't understand what the movie is about because of excessive talking it becomes a problem.
- Some people are not very aware of their surroundings and may not notice they are annoying others. Also, many have interactive and loquacious personalities, which leads to constant talking.
12. I get so bothered when proofreading a long paper after writing it.
- It is imperative to proofread any writings before submitting it in order to present your ideas correctly and clearly.
13. I get so upset and frustrated when I go to eat food I've saved, but find that someone has eaten it.
- I have ran into the temptation myself of wanting to eat someone's food, but I never do it because I know how it makes me feel when someone does it to me. I don't think that everyone thinks that way and that is why this issue occurs.
14. It bugs me when I am talking and someone interrupts me.
- People often times think that what they have to say is most important and fail to realize that someone else is talking and are trying to share something that is important to them.
15. Nothing is more annoying than when someone fails to pick up after their pet in a public area and then you step in it
-Many pet owners do not want to pick up after their dog for various good reasons, but this does not make it okay. It is important for pet owners to not be lazy and take responsibility for their pet.
16. It bothers me when people only talk about themselves and have no interest in what others have to say.
- It is our nature to have a focus on ourselves and our lives, this is what leads to dismissing other's feelings and being open to hearing what they have to say.
17. I have an iphone 6s and it frequently dies at 10-15%. This drives me crazy, especially since I am mentally prepared to still have time on my phone before it needs to be charged.
- I don't know if it has something to do with the battery, but this is a major issue. It could also have something to do with a battery display error or the way I charge my phone.
18. Something that has always annoyed me is tv commercials that interrupt the program or movie I'm watching.
- I know that commercials are important and that it plays a role in the funding of programs. While I am aware of their importance, they bother me so I just change the channel until my program returns.
19. One of the most bothersome things is when I'm shopping at the mall and kiosk workers pressure me to purchase their products.
- Worker's at the mall invade customer's space and pressure them in order to increase their chance of sales. The tactic personally deters me, but it must be effective if not I don't think they would use this approach.
20. I get so bummed and bugged when there are exams or large mid-term assignments due right after school breaks.
-Teachers set up their class assignments as best they can, but I think they should consider how this will affect student's break time. I believe that it is important for students to have time to to take a break and recuperate.
Reflection:
After reading the assignment's description, I thought it would be easy and quick to complete. It was much harder than I thought it would be to list 20 things that bug me. I found it pretty difficult at first to come up with all 20 and why they exist, but overtime the examples began coming to me easier. I think after this assignment I am more understanding about these issues since I contemplated them and realized why they occur and how it can come from an innocent root. I think many of my "bugs" have a solution and I hope that I can eliminate or minimize some of these from occurring in my life.
